Welcome to the Western Horse Project website. By using this website, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
Domain and Scope: The Western Horse Project is an academic project that focuses on the historical and cultural background of the Horses of the Americas and their cultures. This website provides general information about the Western Horse as a type of horse and is not related to any specific breed association or western equestrian sports-related association. The term "western equine culture" covers multiple equine cultures related to the horses of the Americas, including Buckaroo or vaquero culture, Texas style, Mexican Charro style, other Latin American cowboy-related styles, and the hybrid forms and styles that developed throughout history.
Recognition: The project acknowledges the Western Horse as a general type of horse within its historical evolution, represented by various breeds and crossbreds with common ancestors, and its active relationship with humans who introduced these horses to the Americas.
Global Perspective: The project aims to contribute to the overall acclaim and respect for the Western Horse and its cultures on a global scale.
Exclusion: The Western Horse Project only relates to "The horses of the Americas" brought to the "New World" from 1519 (Cortez, in today's Mexico) and 1539-1540 (de Soto, Don Diego Maldonado, Tampa in today's Florida). It does not cover the Mesolithic period (Middle Stone Age) about 10,000 years ago.
Website Usage: This website is available to the general public, and no membership is required.
